ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College wrestling team, ranked 13th in the latest NWCA poll, kicked off the 2009-10 season by defeating 25th-ranked Loras College 33-6.
Jake Oster won his 29th straight match with the victory.
Elmhurst won eight of the 10 matches to score the victory. After Loras scored a win at 125 pounds,
Jake Oster pinned Mark Beatty in 4:51 at 133 pounds to give Elmhurst its first points of the dual. The win by Oster was his 29th straight victory dating back to the 2007-08 season.
Jake Denhof followed with a 13-8 victory over Mike Paulido at 141 pounds.
Ryan Early scored a 12-4 major decision over Loras' Sean Jarvis at 149 pounds.
Charlie Curran followed with a 21-7 major decision over Tiegen Podliska at 157 pounds.
Jack Lewis scored a 10-2 major decision over Josh Porter at 165 pounds.
After a Loras victory at 174 pounds,
Danny Vargas pinned Loras' Ben Bohlen in 1:12 to give Elmhurst a 27-6 lead.
Joe Rau toppled Loras' Josh Kirkland by a 4-1 decision at 197 pounds to put Elmhurst up 30-6.
Mark Corsello closed out the dual with a 6-1 victory over Jeremy Klein at 285 pounds.
