ELMHURST, Ill. - Elmhurst linebacker Randy Wright has been named a first team Preseason All-American but D3football.com.
The preseason all-America honor is the third Wright has earned this season, after being chosen as a first-team Preseason All-American by both Lindy's Sports and The Sporting News.
Wright earned third team All-America honors from D3football.com after a breakout 2008 season. Wright garnered first-team all-conference honors while leading the Bluejays' defense with 119 tackles (61 solo), and 22.5 tackles for loss. He also led the team in sacks (9.5) and quarterback hurries (nine). His 22.5 tackles for loss ranked third in the nation and established a new single-season school record. His 119 total tackles was the eighth-highest single-season total in Elmhurst history. Wright's 9.5 sacks is the third-highest single-season total in Elmhurst history and ranked 15th in the nation.
Wright was named the CCIW's Defensive Player of the Week twice in 2008 and led the league in total tackles (87), assisted tackles (40), and tackles for loss (14.0). He ranked second in the conference in quarterback sacks (5.0).
Elmhurst finished the 2008 season with a 7-3 overall record and a 4-3 mark in the CCIW. The Bluejays' seven victories marked the highest win total since the 1985 season.
