SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Elmhurst College bowling team returned to action after a month break to compete at the Blue-Gold Classic hosted by the University of Notre Dame.
The Bluejays posted a 3-7 overall record and finished 16th our of 44 teams based on total pinfall. Elmhurst moved to 23-40 overall on the season.
The tournament's first day of competition featured standard five-player games. Elmhurst finished the day with a 2-3 mark. The Bluejays began the day with a 968-841 loss to Lindenwood University's "A" squad.
Sarah Paul rolled a 202 to guide the Bluejays in the loss. Elmhurst bounced back from the loss to defeat Lindenwood's "B" squad 919-598 behind Paul's 242. The Bluejays suffered losses to Indiana University (839-823) and St. Ambrose University (927-804) before closing the day with an 888-806 victory over Illinois State University.
Shannon Grimes rolled a 192 to pace the Bluejays in the loss to Indiana. Paul bowled a 193 and Grimes scored a 191 in the Bluejays' loss to St. Ambrose. In the victory over Illinois State, Grimes rolled a 215 to lead Elmhurst to the win.
The tournament's second day consisted of five total-pinfall Baker matches. The Bluejays dropped contests to Erie Community College (733-659), Western Illinois University (699-678), Calumet College-St. Joseph (717-685), and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (717-685). Elmhurst scored its lone win of the day by defeating Robert Morris University-Zion 682-679.
