ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College wrestling team, ranked 25th in the preseason NWCA poll, kicked off the 2010-11 season by toppling Loras College 29-13.

The dual was back-and-forth for the first seven matches, but a pin and two consecutive forfeits gave Elmhurst the 29-13 victory.

Loras' Pat Pfantz opened the dual with a 5-3 victory over Elmhurst's Tom Laskowske at 125 pounds. Elmhurst quickly grabbed the lead in the dual when Jake Denhof scored a 16-5 major decision over Nate Fuller at 133 pounds. Loras reestablished an advantage after Matt Holmes earned a 9-1 major decision over Mike Grice at 141 pounds.

Elmhurst's Ryan Earley  toppled Loras' Chris Gansen 16-5 to earn a major decision at 149 pounds. Sheldon Hubbard gave Elmhurst an 11-7 lead in the dual by upending Sean Jarvis 3-1 at 157 pounds.

Loras won back-to-back matches at 165 pounds and 174 pounds to take a 13-11 lead. Mitch Gansen knocked off Yousef Al-Ghoul 10-5 at 165 pounds while Tiegen Podliska toppled Danny Balderas 8-4 at 174 pounds.

Elmhurst took command of the dual at 184 pounds when Joe Rau pinned Matt Dickman in 4:25. Danny Vargas and Mark Corsello received forfeits at 197 pounds and 285 pounds, respectively, to make the final score 29-13 in favor of the Bluejays. 

Elmhurst hosts Wheaton College in a CCIW dual meet on Tuesday, November 16.
