ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's basketball team snapped an eight-game skid and scored its first CCIW win of the season with a 66-58 victory over Millikin University.
Elmhurst (6-14, 1-8 CCIW) trailed by a bucket with six minutes to play in the opening half, but the Bluejays closed on a 12-2 run to take a 32-24 lead at halftime.
Dustin Bainter scored 24 points to pace the Bluejays.
The Bluejays scored the first three buckets of the second half to take a 14-point lead before Millikin (7-13, 2-7 CCIW) mounted a rally. The Big Blue whittled Elmhurst's lead down to nine points with seven minutes to play. A 5-0 run by Millikin pulled the Big Blue to within four points (47-43) with six minutes to go, but Elmhurst used a 10-3 run over the next four minutes to open up an 11-point advantage. The Bluejays hit 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to put the game out of reach.
Elmhurst finished the game shooting 53.7 percent (22-of-41) from the floor while Millikin shot just 40.4 percent (21-of-52). Millikin shot just 1-of-9 (11.1 percent) from beyond the arc. The Big Blue outrebounded the Bluejays 34-26.
Dustin Bainter paced Elmhurst with a 24-point, five-assist performance. Bainter shot 9-of-13 from the floor and added four steals in the Bluejays' victory.
Zack Boyd added 12 points for Elmhurst.

Matt Bernier all scored seven points in the Elmhurst win.
Mike McCurdy totaled six points and five assists for the Bluejays.
Corey Mitchell and Joscar Demby totaled 11 points apiece to lead the Big Blue. Rodney Clark added eight points for Millikin.
Elmhurst travels to Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday, February 6.
