Track Teams Run at Cougar Invitational

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's and women's track and field teams returned to action by running at the Cougar Invitational hosted by Concordia University-Chicago. The men's team finished fourth while the women's squad placed fifth.

On the men's side, the Bluejays totaled 58.0 points, finishing just five points behind Wheaton College. North Central College won the team title with 248.0 points. Mark D'Angelo finished second in the 400 meters with a time of 50.69 seconds while Jake Austin  finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.12. Jon Janus placed sixth in the the 100 meter dash, crossing the finish line in 11.54 seconds. Neil Bonk, Tony Chan, and Pat Brambert all scored team points in the 110 hurdles. Bonk placed second in 18.18 seconds while Chan finished right behind in 18.49 seconds. Brambert placed sixth in 19.66 seconds.  In the 400 hurdles, Matt Forster placed third with a time of 58.88 seconds. 

On the women's side, the squad totaled 57 points to place fifth. Concordia-Chicago finished fourth with 66.5 points. North Central College won the team title with 155.50 points. Kate Pilson won the individual title in the shot put with a toss of 40-02.25. Whitney Roth added a third-place finish in the shot put (34-2.5) and in the discus (118-0). Tracy Brtis scored team points in two events for the Bluejays. Brtis placed second in the 400 hurdles in 1:09.83. She added a seventh-place finish in the 200 meters in 28.08 seconds. Three Bluejays scored points in the 1,500 meters. Katlyn Bednarski was the top finisher in the event, crossing the finish line in third in 4:58.71. Amanda Andersen finished fifth (5:02.82) while Lauren Williams placed sixth (5:03.87). Hannah Williams added a fourth-place finish in the steeplechase (13:02.0) while Lauren Fane placed sixth (14:08.0). Erin Thomson added an eighth-place finish in the hammer (109-8) for the Bluejays.

Both teams will compete at the CCIW Championship on May 7-8.
