BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's golf team opened the spring portion of its schedule by placing seventh out of 24 teams at the Illinois Wesleyan University Invitational.
The Bluejays shot a two-day total of 637 and tied for seventh place with Central College, Monmouth College, and Carthage College. The Bluejays finished just one stroke shy of sixth place, and were only two shots behind fifth-place finisher Carroll University (635).
Matt Cross was the top finisher for the Bluejays, shooting a 155 and tying for 16th place. After shooting an 83 on the invite's first day, Cross fired an even par 72 on day two.
Billy Buchholz finished a stroke behind Cross, totaling a two-day score of 156. Buchholz shot a 79 on day one and a 77 on day two to tie for 26th place.
Tyler Qahhaar tied for 51st place by shooting back-to-back 81s to total a 162.
Josh Gorzney shot a 164 (81-83) to tie for 59th place while
Scott Stastny placed 72nd by shooting a 168 (85-83).
Elmhurst golfs at the Augustana College Invitational on April 9-10.
