Zumpf Selected as Elmhurst's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year

ELMHURST, Ill. - Becca Zumpf, a senior outfielder for the softball team, was named Elmhurst College's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year during the College's Annual Leadership Awards ceremony on Friday, May 7. 

The award is given annually to one male and one female student-athlete who excel in competition and in the classroom.

Zumpf, the Bluejays' starting left fielder finished the season hitting .383 with a team-leading 23 RBI. She also led the team in doubles (seven), triples (six), runs scored (27), extra base hits (14), walks (12), slugging percentage (.574), and on-base percentage (.447).

Zumpf earned all-conference and all-region honors in 2009 after leading the team with a .385 average. In three seasons with the Bluejays, Zumpf has career totals of 108 hits, 14 doubles, 13 triples, one home run, 44 RBI, 67 runs, and a .354 average. She ranks 11th in school history in hits, ninth in runs scored, second in walks (39), eighth in batting average (.354), and fourth in slugging percentage (.574). She is also tied for the career lead in triples with 13.

A mathematics major, Zumpf is graduating after just three years at Elmhurst. She maintains a 3.78 grade-point average. She was recently named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District first team.  

"Becca had an outstanding year for us," said Elmhurst head coach Lori Brown. "She put up excellent numbers while batting lead-off for us. He work ethic on the field obviously transfers to her work ethic in the classroom as well."

The Elmhurst softball team finished the season with a 22-16 overall record and a 7-7 mark in CCIW play.
