Bluejay Football Team Heading Overseas

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College football team is embarking on a week-long overseas trip to Germany and the Czech Republic from May 31 to June 8.

The trip is a unique blend of local sightseeing along with football activities. While exploring many historical places of interest in both Berlin and Prague, the Bluejays will also be practicing in preparation for a game against the Prague All-Stars on Saturday, June 5.

"I see the value of this trip as being two-fold," said Elmhurst head coach Tim Lester. "The 39 players making this trip get the benefit of 10 extra padded practices which is an added benefit in preparing for the upcoming season. The camaraderie of traveling together and playing a team overseas is also very exciting. Our players will be spending time together as a team that few other schools get to experience."

The trip is organized by Global Football, a Texas-based company which provides the opportunity for amateur athletes from different countries to compete against one another, while experiencing and learning first hand about each other's culture.

The Bluejays will spend their first days in Berlin visiting such historical sights as the Brandenburg Gate and the Checkpoint Charlie Museum while also taking the Third Reich Walking Tour.

Once in Prague, Elmhurst will have the opportunity to walk the medieval streets of Mala Strana, cross the Charles Bridge, and view Europe's oldest synagogue.
