ELMHURST, Ill. - Elmhurst College baseball players
Dan Matkovic and
Nick Herrera have both been named to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) all-conference second team.
Herrera, a senior outfielder/catcher, earned his second consecutive all-conference accolade after earning first-team honors in 2009. Herrera was chosen as the only utility player on the second team. He led the Bluejays in batting, posting a .399 average. He totaled a team-leading 59 hits, 84 total bases, 36 runs scored, and 36 RBI. He also led the team in extra-base hits (16) while ranking second on the squad in doubles.
In CCIW contests, Herrera hit .382 with 31 hits in 81 at-bats. He drove in 19 runs and scored 20 in conference contests.
Matkovic, a junior outfielder, was one of four outfielders selected to the second-team. He ranked second on the squad in batting average, hitting .384 for the season. He led the Bluejays in home runs (five) while ranking second on the squad in total bases (67) and third in RBI (25). He also ranked fourth on the team in runs scored (25) and was the team's co-leader in triples.
In CCIW games, Matkovic posted a a .380 average with 27 hits in 71 at-bats. He smacked four of his home runs in conference games and drove in 15 runs in league contests.
