ELMHURST, Ill. - Elmhurst College baseball player
Vince Mathe has been named to the
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team selection.
The 11-member District Five squad, voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), is comprised of athletes from colleges and universities in the states of Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Indiana.
As a first-team selection,Mathe advances to the national ballot where he has a chance to earn
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors.
Mathe, the Bluejays starting shortstop, is hitting .317 on the season while ranking second on the team in runs batted in with 29. Mathe ranks third on the squad in doubles with nine. He recorded his first home run of his career, a grand slam, last week against Carroll. He's committed just seven errors while starting every game at shortstop this season.
In four seasons with the Bluejays, Mathe has career totals of 87 hits, 16 doubles, one triple, one home run, 57 RBI, and a .267 average.
A finance major, Mathe maintains a grade-point average of 3.97.
The Bluejay baseball team currently has an 8-29 overall record.
