Four Bowlers Earn Academic Honors

ELMHURST, Ill. - Four members of the Elmhurst College women's bowling team have been named to the National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) All-Academic team.Seniors Sarah Paul and Alyssa Vogler and juniors Shannon Grimes and Amanda Warwick were all named the NTCA All-Academic honorable mention squad.

In order to be eligible for the award, student-athletes were required to achieve a minimum grade-point average of 3.40 for the 2009-10 academic year. The NTCA is comprised of NCAA head bowling coaches.

Paul, an early childhood education major, earned her second straight honor from the NTCA after ranking second on the team with a 178 average during the 2009-10 season. Paul holds the top two single-season averages in her three-year career (181 in 2007-08 and 180 in 2008-09). She is also the Bluejays' all-time leader in total games over 200 with 24. 

Vogler, a special education major, finished third on the team with a 176 average. She ranks sixth in school history in all-time games over 200 with 13. 

Grimes, a junior geology and geo sciences major, earned her second straight academic honor from the NTCA. She led the Bluejays with a 179 average during the 2009-10 season. Grimes bowled a career-high 277 against Stephen F. Austin State University on October 26, 2009. Her 179 average this season is the third-highest single-season average in school history. She ranks third in school history in total games over 200 with 17. 

Warwick, a nursing major, finished the season with a 176 average. She became the first Bluejay bowler in school history to record a perfect game, scoring a perfect 300 against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on November 14, 2009. Her 15 total games over 200 rank her fifth in school history.
