Bluejay Men's Soccer Team Blasts Rose-Hulman 4-1

WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's soccer team evened its record at 1-1 by defeating Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 4-1 at the Bob Baptista Invitational hosted by Wheaton College.

After failing to score during the tournament's wind-filled opening day, Elmhurst broke loose for four goals in the win over Rose-Hulman. 

Matt Sterner had a hand in every Elmhurst goal, scoring twice and assisting on the other two tallies. 

Sterner started the scoring in the 15th minute when he scored off a feed from Ken Miller. That goal stood for the entire first half and the Bluejays led 1-0 at the break. 

Elmhurst exploded for three goals in less than 20 minutes to put the game out of reach in the second half. Luke Froehlich connected off an assist from Sterner in the 51st minute to give the Bluejays a 2-0 lead. David Madison collected his first goal as a  Bluejay in the 64th minute when he found the back of the net off of Sterner's second assist. Sterner finished Elmhurst's scoring in the 70th minute when he tacked on an unassisted goal.

Rose-Hulman's Adam Carlson converted a penalty kick in the 76th minute to account for the Fightin' Engineers only goal of the contest.

Elmhurst outshot Rose-Hulman 18-9 in the contest and had a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Sebastian Domczewski allowed only the penalty kick past him to earn the victory in net for the Bluejays. He recorded two saves in the win. Andy Kruth took the loss in goal for Rose-Hulman, allowing four goals and recording three saves. 

Elmhurst hosts Monmouth College at Berens Park on Tuesday, September 7, at 7:00 p.m.
