ELMHURST, Ill. - Goals from
Katie Baschen and
Valerie Wesley propelled the Elmhurst College women's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout win over Lawrence University. Elmhurst ran its record to 3-1 on the season with the victory.
Katie Baschen scored less than two minutes into the game.
Elmhurst needed little time to get on the scoreboard. Less than two minutes into the contest,
Jess Belmonte sent a pass through the goal box that Baschen blasted off of Lawrence goalkeeper Cassandra Burke's hands and into the back of the net.
The score remained 1-0 until the 74th minute when Wesley collected a long pass from
Lindsay Carlson that bounced off a Lawrence defender and raced in for a one-on-one against Burke. Wesley chipped the ball into the upper left corner of the net to stake Elmhurst to a 2-0 lead.
Elmhurst outshot Lawrence 16-3 in the contest, including a 10-1 advantage in the second half.
Allison Korbel earned her second shutout of the season in net for the Bluejays. She stopped all three shots she faced in Elmhurst's win.
Burke took the loss in net for Lawrence, allowing two goals and recording nine saves.
Elmhurst hosts Principia College at Langhorst Field on Friday, September 10, at 4:00 p.m.
