NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Elmhurst College defender
Stephanie Thomson has been named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's Defensive Player of the Week in women's soccer.
Thomson, a senior from Palatine High School, helped anchor an Elmhurst defense that recorded back-to-back shutouts last week while qualifying for the conference tournament for the first time since the 2003 season.
On Wednesday, Elmhurst's defense surrendered just seven shots in a 3-0 win over Millikin and allowed just four shots on goal. On Saturday, the Bluejays' secured their spot in the conference tournament with a 1-0 shutout at Augustana. The Bluejays' defense allowed the Vikings just seven shots for the entire game and only shot on goal. With the game scoreless at halftime, Elmhurst held Augustana to without a shot for the entire second half.
Elmhurst, seeded third, travels to second-seeded Illinois Wesleyan University for the semifinals of the CCIW Tournament on Wednesday (November 2). The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time.
