Capital One Academic All-District Team
ELMHURST, Ill. - Elmhurst football players
Chris Kirkpatrick and
Scottie Williams have both been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Kirkpatrick was one of five offensive linemen named to the first team, earning the second consecutive Academic All-District honor of his career. Kirkpatrick has been the Bluejays' starting center for the past two seasons. Elmhurst currently is ranked 25th in the nation in total offense, averaging 447.8 yards per game. The Bluejays also rank 35th in the country in scoring offense (34.8 points per game). A two-time academic all-conference selection, Kirkpatrick also serves as the president of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee. A history major, Kirkpatrick maintains a 3.67 grade-point average.
Williams was one of two running backs selected to the first-team. The Bluejays' rushing leader in 2011, Williams has compiled 1,191 yards and eight
touchdowns on 192 carries. He leads the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin in rushing and needs only 30 yards to become the league's first 1,000-yard rusher (in conference games only) since the 2004 season. Williams is the first player in Elmhurst history to rush for over 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons after setting a single-season record of 1,220 yards in 2010. Entering the final week of the season, he needs only 25 more yards to become just the third player in Elmhurst history to total over 3,000 rushing yards in his career. He has been named the CCIW's Offensive Player of the Week and was named to D3football.com's Team of the Week on two occasions this season. A marketing major, Williams maintains a 3.46 grade-point average.
As first-team honorees, Kirkpatrick and Wiiliams will be placed on the national ballot to earn Academic All-America honors.
The Academic All-District teams are broken into eight geographic districts (Elmhurst is in District 7) across the United States and Canada. This is the first year of the expanded Academic All-America program as CoSIDA has doubled the amount of student-athletes honored by separating the former College Division (comprised of all non-Division I schools) into separate Divisions for NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants. The new College Division combines NAIA, Canadian, and two-year institutions.
