MERRILLVILLE, Ind. - The Elmhurst College bowling team placed eighth out nine teams at the Crusader Classic hosted by Valparaiso University.
The Bluejays finished with a 3-9 dual meet record over the three-day tournament.
On Friday, the Bluejays posted a 1-3 record in four total-pinfall Baker matches. Elmhurst opened with a 988-914 loss to 14th-ranked Alabama A&M University. The Bluejays bounced back to upset 20th-ranked Prairie View A&M University 876-843. The Bluejays closed the day with losses to fifth-ranked University of Nebraska (916-746) and 18th-ranked Valparaiso (944-670).
Saturday's format consisted of standard five-player matches. Elmhurst recorded a 1-4 mark on the day. The Bluejays opened with an 876-653 victory over Salem International University.
Amanda Warwick rolled a 193 and
Alyssa Collins added a 184 to lead the Bluejays in the win. Elmhurst followed with a 1090-846 loss to sixth-ranked Arkansas State University despite Warwick bowling a team-leading 223. Elmhurst fell 948-876 to #17 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Halie Maxwell led Elmhurst in the loss to the Warhawks by rolling a 201 while Warwick bowled a 192.
Elmhurst finished Saturday with back-to-back losses to Alabama State University. The Bluejays
dropped the first meeting 861-819 with Maxwell bowling a 204 and Warwick chipping in with a 198. Alabama State scored a 720-690 win in the second match. Warwick recorded her second 200 score of the day by rolling a 202.
The first two days total pinfall helped seed Sunday's bracket finals to determine the final standings. Playing a best-of-seven Baker match format, the Bluejays finished with a 1-2 record. Elmhurst fell to Alabama State 4-3 in the opener, but bounced back to defeat Salem International 4-2. The Bluejays closed the day with a 4-2 loss to Alabama State.
Warwick was named to the all-tournament team for her play.
Elmhurst now stands at 17-33 on the season.
