COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Elmhurst College women's basketball team remained unbeaten on the season by hammering Presentation College 98-38 at the Colorado College Tournament.
With the victory, the Bluejays improved to 3-0, winning its first three contests of the season for the first time since the 2005-06 season.
Leading 8-6 just three minutes into the contest, the Bluejays outscored the Saints 42-6 over the next 17 minutes, blowing the game open with a 52-12 halftime lead.
Elmhurst continued to pull away in the second half, leading by as many as 62 points and cruising to the 60-point victory.
Elmhurst shot a blistering 50.6 percent (43-of-85) from the floor, including 30.8 percent (4-of-14) from beyond the arc. Presentation shot only 22.4 percent (13-of-58) from the floor, and only 18.2 percent (2-of-11) from three-point range.
The Bluejays dominated on the glass, finishing the contest with a 58-36 edge in rebounding. Elmhurst committed only seven turnovers in the game while dishing out 31 assists.
Fourteen different Bluejays tallied points in the victory.
Meghan Merklein led the way for Elmhurst, scoring 24 points while shooting 10-of-13 from the field. Merklein added seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and three steals.
Tess Godhardt scored a season-high 16 points while hitting 8-of-10 shots and added eight rebounds for Elmhurst.
Megan Ney totaled 12 points and a team-leading nine rebounds.
Stephanie Mitchell came off the bench to score 12.
Devin Vaughn totaled six points and nine assists while not committing a turnover.
Jordan Maisto added eight assists and three points while playing a turnover-free game.
Kelli Boekelheide led Presentation with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Hannah Phillips adde 11 points for the Saints.
Elmhurst welcomes Saint Mary's University (Minn.) on Tuesday, November 22.
