Bluejays Drop Doubleheader at Judson

The Elmhurst College softball team fell to 10-22 overall after dropping a non-conference doubleheader to Judson University. The Bluejays dropped game one 8-4 and fell 12-1 in the night cap.

Judson used a four-run fifth inning to surge in front of the Bluejays and pull away the victory in game one.

Elmhurst grabbed a 2-0 lead in the opening advantage. Amanda Bowlin singled home a run to put Elmhurst on the scoreboard. Clare Bukowski roped a two-out, RBI double to give the Bluejays a 2-0 lead. The Bluejays went up 4-0 in the third inning after Julie Devine knocked in a pair of runs with a two-out double.

Judson sliced the lead in half with two runs in the bottom of the third. A one-out Elmhurst error in the fifth inning loaded the bases for the Eagles. Emily England followed with a two-run single to even the score at 4-4. Brittany Holm tacked on a RBI single to give Judson a 5-4 lead. The Eagles added another run in the fifth and tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning to score the 8-4 win.

Bowlin and Katie Hruby recorded two hits apiece in the Elmhurst loss.

Stephanie Iori took the loss for the Bluejays, surrendering 14 hits and six earned runs in six innings of work. She struck out two while falling to 7-10 overall.

JUDSON 12, ELMHURST 1 - Judson used a pair of big innings to pull away from the Bluejays and score a 12-1 win in five innings. The Eagles scored seven runs in the second and five in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Elmhurst took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Bowlin's RBI single, but Judson sent 10 batters to the plate in a seven-run second inning. A leadoff homer by Erin Stankus tied the game at one. Five walks sandwiched around a double play allowed the Eagles to load the bases with two outs. Nicole Dimiceli put the Eagles on top with a two-run single. Allison Catlett followed with a three-run homer to give Judson a 7-1 advantage.

Judson scored five more times in the fourth inning to pull away for the 11-run victory.

Hruby recorded two of Elmhurst's five hits in the loss.

Lindsay Nauman took the loss for Elmhurst after being tagged for 10 hits and 12 runs. She walked seven and struck out three.

Elmhurst resumes CCIW competition by hosting Augustana College on Friday, April 22.
