ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College women's tennis team fell to 1-7 on the season following a 7-2 loss to Webster University at the Brune Tennis Courts.
Originally scheduled to be a triangular, the Bluejays' match against St. Joseph's College was postponed due to rain.
Webster (4-1) won five of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles contests to earn the five-point victory.
In doubles play, Webster's team of Paige Tungate and Allison Tungate toppled the Bluejays' duo of
Stephanie Ruff and
Jordyn Hoover 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles Webster's Marissa Lewis and Lauren Hacker teamed to defeat Elmhurst's Kayla Magiapane and
Jennifer Guenther 8-1. Elmhurst scored its lone point in doubles play at No. 3 doubles when
Emily Tarlini and
Nicole Darga defeated Lindsay Hays and Isabella Espinoza 8-3.
In singles play, Paige Tungate opened with a 6-2, 5-7, 10-5 win over Ruff at No. 1 singles. Lewis followed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Darga at No. 2 singles while Allison Tungate handed Hoover a 6-2, 6-0 loss at No. 3 singles. Hays used three sets to topple Magiapane 6-1, 4-6, 10-7 at No. 4 singles and Hacker upended Tarlini 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. Elmhurst scored a point at No. 6 singles when Guenther defeated Kathleen Kennedy 7-6, 7-5.
