LINCOLN, Neb. - The Elmhurst bowling team posted a 4-9 record while placing 10th at the Big Red Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska.
Elmhurst opened the three-day tournament with a 2-3 record while competing in total-pinfall Baker matches. Elmhurst opened the day with a 690-660 win over Florida A&M before falling to sixth-ranked Central Missouri 880-725. The Bluejays followed with back-to-back losses to UW-Whitewater (886-792) and Nebraska (879-635) before ending the day with a 679-627 victory over Alabama-Birmingham.
On Friday, the Bluejays finished 1-4 while competing in standard matches. Elmhurst opened with a 974-879 loss to Sam Houston State.
Ann Bialk led the way in the loss with a 215. The Bluejays followed with a 999-876 loss to Monmouth.
Amanda Warwick bowled a 236 and
Alyssa Collins added a 207 to lead the Bluejays in the loss.
Elmhurst dropped its third straight contest, falling to Stephen F. Austin 940-919 despite Warwick rolling a 224. Elmhurst snapped its three-game skid by upending Bethune-Cookman 997-924. Collins bowled a 216 to pace the Bluejays in the win while
Beth Bogdanich recorded a 211. Elmhurst closed the day with a narrow five-pin loss (920-915) to top-ranked Valparaiso. Warwick paced the Bluejays with a 215.
Saturday's format consisted of bracket finals to determine final team places. Competing in best-of-seven Baker matches, the Bluejays finished with a 1-2 record. Elmhurst opened with a 4-2 loss to Arkansas State and then dropped a 4-3 decision to Florida A&M. The Bluejays closed out the tournament with a 4-2 victory over Alabama-Birmingham.
Elmhurst competes at the McKendree Baker Challenge on February 4-5.
