Tennis Teams Host Senior Day Against St. Joseph's

ELMHURST, Ill. -
The Elmhurst College men's and women's tennis teams held a joint senior day against St. Joseph's College at the Brune Tennis Courts. The men's squad scored a 7-2 victory while the women's team suffered an 8-1 loss.

On the men's side, the Bluejays won five of the six singles matches and took two of the three doubles contests en route to the five-point victory.

In singles play, Alex Harbert toppled Joseph Bomben 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles while Will Jung followed at No. 2 singles with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Danny James. Vincent McPherson scored a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Seth Arthur at No. 3 singles and Luke Tanaka dispatched Joseph Scott 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. The Pumas scored their only point in singles play at No. 5 singles when Adam Meeker edged Elmhurst's Kevin Noble in three sets (2-6, 6-4, 10-8). Jim White closed out singles play for the Bluejays with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Carl Fisher at No. 6 singles.

In doubles competition, the Bluejays' team of Harbert and Jung knocked off Bomber and Arthur 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. St. Joseph's duo of  James and Meeker edged Tanaka and McPherson 8-5 at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Noble and Justin Guenther defeated Scott and Matt Slawson 8-1.

The women's squad fell to 1-11 on the season after falling to St. Joseph's. St. Joseph's swept the six singles matches and won two of the three doubles contests en route to the win.

In doubles play, the Pumas' duo of Cynthia Kegley and Katie Guernsey defeated Elmhurst's Jordyn Hoover and Stephanie Ruff 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, St. Joseph's Debra Easton-Bates and Brooke Foltz scored an 8-1 win over Kayla Mangiapane and Jennifer Guenther. Elmhurst scored its only point at No. 3 doubles when Emily Tarlini and Nicole Darga defeated Natalie Burgeson and Emily Claeys 9-7 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Kegley downed Darga 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles while Easton Bates downed Ruff 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2 singles. Foltz blanked Mangiapane 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles while Katie Guernsey scored a 6-0, 6-1 win over Tarlini at No.4 singles. Burgeson defeated Ragan Wilson 6-2, 7-5 at No. 5 singles for the Pumas. Claeys defeated Guenther 7-6, 7-5 at No. 6 singles.

The men's team will travel to North Central College on Tuesday (April 3) while the women's team will play at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on April 15.
