Bluejays Upend Concordia 11-3

Box Score ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College baseball team upped its record to 20-16 on the season by downing Concordia University (Wis.) 11-3.

The Bluejays scored earley and often, racing out to an 11-0 advantage after just three innings.

Zach Hofer started the scoring for Elmhurst in the first with an RBI single. Dave Wolak followed with a run-scoring double and Marc Shield added an RBI single to give the Bluejays a 3-0 lead. Tyler Wargo added a sacrifice fly and Jake Bronkema doubled home a run to give Elmhurst a 5-0 lead after one inning.

Shield extended the Bluejays' lead to 8-0 in the second when he belted a three-run shot to right field.

The Bluejays taked on three runs in the sixth to go up 11-0. Wolak singled home a run and the Bluejays scored twice on wild pitches.

Concordia got on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. The Falcons added a run in the eighth to make the final score 11-3 in favor of the Bluejays.

Shield finished 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBI and two runs scored. Wolak added two hits, scored three times and drove in two. Joe Kennedy scored three times for Elmhurst while Hofer and Bronkema each collected two hits.

Brian Marquis improved to 3-1 on the season while picking up the win for the Bluejays. Marquis allowing just three runs and seven hits. He walked three and faned one in seven innings pitched. Bryan Baker finished up in relief for the Bluejays, working the final two innings and just one hit and three walks while striking out two.

Elmhurst hosts Carroll University on Wednesday, May 2.
