ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst wrestling team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 39-3 rout of Trine.

The 125-pound bout was scoreless through one period, but
Anthony Munoz took control in the second with a takedown and a four-point near fall. The Bluejay cruised to a 10-3 win to give his team an early 3-0 lead.

After
Jared Braun pinned Drew Clark in 1:12 to give Elmhurst a 9-0 lead,
Ronnie Hauser came out of the gates firing. After leading 12-3 through one period, the senior held on for a 12-8 win at 141.

The Thunder (0-2) scored their first points of the dual at 149. Tied after two periods, Trine's Caleb Maddox used an escape to take a one-point advantage. With under 15 seconds left, Elmhurst's
Caleb Ramos converted on a takedown, but Maddox quickly pounced with a reversal to retake the lead and win 6-5.

Elmhurst dominated the rest of the way in completing their 39-3 win.
Gunnar Hjorth won by major decision (10-0) at 157 and then
Tim Noverini pinned his opponent in just 50 seconds.

After
Keone Derain won by forfeit,
Leo Ortiz (12-5) and
Mark Miller (8-1) both convincingly earned their first victories in Elmhurst singlets.
Luis Montoya finished off the night in style, recording three four-point near falls in the first period to win by technical fall (16-0 in 2:38).

Elmhurst travels to the Concordia University (Wis.) Open this Saturday, December 19.
