Men's Cross Country Team Takes Sixth at Own Invite

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College men's cross country team kicked off the 2010 season by placing sixth at the Elmhurst Earlybird Invitational at Eldridge Park.

The Bluejays totaled a 211 to place sixth. North Central College won the team title with a perfect 15 points. The University of Chicago finished second (68) followed by the University of St. Francis (72). North Central's freshman squad finished fourth (117) while Loras College placed fifth with 145. 

Pat Austin was the first Bluejay runner to cross the finish line. Austin placed 22nd overall with a time of 19:54.3. Jake Austin finished in 46th place with a time of 20:25.3 while Tom McGrath placed 55th in 20:39.6. Doug Vrchota crossed the finish line in 20:51.4, good for 63rd place. Nathan Selling completed the Bluejays' team scoring with a 102nd place finish in 21:44.2.David Melone(105th place in 21:49.3) and Todd Byrne (121st in 22:11.5) rounded out the Bluejays' top seven runners.

Elmhurst returns to action in two weeks by running at the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships at Illinois State University on September 17.
